Family Health Center

Fhc ClinicThis facility was constructed on its current site in 1983 and has housed the residency training program continuously since. It is comprised of four resident clinic team areas with seven exam rooms each and adjacent resident work rooms; two dedicated minor procedure rooms (including colposcopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy); a 13-room outpatient clinic (which includes our behavioral health training clinic); faculty and administrative offices; a resident conference room and adjacent 200-seat auditorium; a full-service pharmacy with robotic prescription processing; and counseling services and two psychiatrist offices. Each resident clinic team area is designed to model an independent outpatient practice with its own set of office staff, nurses and patient panel.

Electronic Medical RecordWe have used the Epic electronic medical record system in our clinics continuously since 1999. We are a recognized leader in the integration of EMR use and residency training. Our center was awarded the 2009 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Davies Award for improving patient outcomes through the use of an electronic medical record.

"Choosing Waco for residency was an easy decision. After training at a multispecialty tertiary referral center, I wanted to further my education at a community-based program. Waco has no other residency programs in town, and specialists are easily accessible. Every day, I have the privilege of helping wonderful patients, who might otherwise never have the opportunity to obtain medical care. The faculty and residents are top notch -- smart, caring, compassionate, and eager to teach/learn. Ultimately, I cannot imagine training anywhere else!"
